Kierunek który chcemy Wam przedstawić w tym tygodniu to Office Technology i Medical Office – jest to prgram po ukończeniu którego uzyskujecie Associate Degree, oraz wykształcenie w dwóch kierunkach jednocześnie. Część ‘technologiczna’ zajęć skupia się na przygotowaniu studentów do działania w nowoczesnym biznesie ale i do wykonywania operacji komputerowych w gabinecie medycznym; medyczna część programu skupia się na procedurach i terminologi medycznej, a także tak istotnym aspekcie jak: kodowanie dla procesowania ubezpieczenia zdrowotnego i rachunków.
Studenci w programie medycznym przygotowuja się do pracy nie-klinicznej i pozycjach administracyjnych, takich jak:

Nasi studenci otrzymują wszechstronną edukację w temacie systemu ubezpieczeń zdrowotnych w Stanach Zjednoczonych, włącznie z instrukcjami dotyczącymi regulaminów a także tego jak ich implementacja wygląda w praktyce z użyciem ESH – electronic health records w trakcie skomputeryzowanych zajęć rachunkowości.
Do dyspozycji studentów jest również Klub Medyczny, który pomaga studentom przygotować się do nawiązywania profesjonalnych kontaktów, zdania testów i zaznajomienia się z różnymi wymiarami ich pracy, a także specjalizacyjami które mogą wybrać. W klubie mają również możliwość poznać wielu pracowników z branży, od osób zajmujących się kodowaniem do lekarzy.
Pomimo, że obowiązki pracowników w gabinetach medycznych nie opierają się na pracy klinicznej, każdy z zatrudnionych w sferze medycznej, powinien posiadać wspaniałą umiejętność obsługi klienta – tłumaczenie rachunków czy zaleceń lekarza, również wymaga odpowiedniego przygotowania.
Jaka przyszłość czeka więc studentów LIBI, którzy ukończą kierunek Office Technology and Medical Office?
Mogą od razu wybrać pracę w zawodzie, kontynuować naukę na uniwersytecie czteroletnim (jednym z wielu, z którymi LIBI posiada umowę) lub zdobywać dalsze kwalifikacje i certyfikaty w różnych dziedzinach. At LIBI, we believe that part of our purpose is to help you find the career that best suits you, both personally and professionally. Sometimes students know they want to improve their lives, but are conflicted as to which career path to pursue.
Our advising team will help them with their decision using effective tools that indicate either a strength, a preference, or a combination of both, where a student may have an aptitude for one thing and an aspiration for another. Very often, this means either working toward two degrees, which takes more time and more money, or making a difficult choice; talent or aspiration?
The third option is something referred to as a cross-discipline program.
LIBI’s Associate Degree in Office Technology and Medical Office is a cross-discipline program which combines office and medical technology. While the office technology portion of the program focuses on preparing our students for the modern business and medical office operations, the medical office curriculum focuses on procedures and provides special preparation in medical terminology and coding for insurance processing and billing.
Students in the medical office program are prepared for non-clinical, administrative positions in a variety of settings, including:
- Front desk in a medical office
- Medical coders and billers
- Medical insurance specialists
Our students receive a comprehensive education on the medical insurance system in the United States, including an in-depth instruction on the insurance guidelines and hands-on practice using electronic health records (EHR) in our computerized billing class
This program boasts a host of resources, including a medical club which helps students prepare for professional networking, conducts test preparations, and introduces the students to different professional associations they may want to join, along with a staff consisting of working professionals in various fields, from doctors to coders.
While the curriculum focuses primarily on the non-clinical aspects of the medical office industry, it is nonetheless a medical environment where non-clinical workers and medical administrative workers often have significant and personal contact with patients. Medical office workers can offer empathy and reassurance by explaining something as simple as a patient’s confusing medical bill, which means they ultimately need to possess customer service skills, a quality that generally encourages students to pursue this program.
So what can students of our AOS Office Technology and Medical Office expect after graduation?
While this AOS degree provides the skills for immediate entry into the workforce, there are other options for our graduates, including further study or certification in a variety of areas.
For those wishing to take the Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), LIBI offers preparatory courses and is also an NHA approved testing site; this means that students can prepare and take the exam at our LIBI campus.
Some graduates may also choose to pursue a bachelor’s degree to enhance their skills with a degree in office management or another area that will enhance their career opportunities.
To better benefit our graduates in this endeavor, LIBI has established articulation agreements with fourteen colleges in the New York area, all of which apply your LIBI credits to a four-year degree.
Another prevailing aspect of this field is the professional development and long-term stability. According to the US Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, this particular field is expected to grow by 15% from 2014 to 2024, which is considered much faster than average.
This demand for health services is expected to increase as the population ages, as people are living longer and medical office professionals will be needed to organize their information and file their claims for insurance companies.
“Prospects will be best for those with a certification in health information, such as the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or the Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR). As EHR systems continue to become more common, health information technicians with computer skills will be needed to use them.”
