W ciągu ostatnich dwóch miesięcy, przybliżaliśmy Wam działalność Long Island Business Institute. Nadszedł czas na udzielenie odpowiedzi na najczęściej zadawane przez Was pytania:
- Mój angielski jest OK, ale planuję rozpocząć naukę w college. Pracuję na pełny etat. Jaki jest najlepszy kurs ESL – English as a Second Language (według grafiku, częstotliwości zajęć, typu zajęć), który powinienem rozpocząć? Czy oferujecie zajęcia takie jak Profesjonalny Angielski, Angielski Biznesowy czy Akademicki Angielski? Jak długo zajmie mi, aby w stopniu zaawansowanym władać językiem?
Po pierwszym spotkaniu z reprezentantem biura przyjęć, wszyscy studenci są oceniani według swojego poziomu zaawansowania i w ten sposób LIBI decyduje o poziomie na jakim dany student będzie uczył się j.angielskiego. Zapraszam aby sprawdzić katalog oferowanych zajęć, w którym przeczytać można na temat procesu kwalifikacji oraz wmagań dla danego kursu. Katalog wyszczególnia również klasy języka angielskiego wymagane przez każdy kierunek studiów.
2. Wiem, że w LIBI można mieć indywidualnie dopasowany grafik zajęć. Jak wygląda wybieranie klas? Czy moge wybierać klasy indywidualnie, czy muszę brać “blok klasowy.” Jak będzie wyglądał proces wybierania klas w moim kierunku studiów?
LIBI oferuje klasy ranne i wieczorowe. Grafik poranny kończy się przed godziną 2:30 p.m. a wieczorowy zaczyna się o 6 p.m. Każdy program ma podstawowe klasy, które musisz wziąć, a niektóre z klas, możesz wziąć tylko po ukończeniu niższych kursów. To nie oznacza, że jeżeli jesteś zarejestrowany na jeden kurs, automatycznie zarejestrowany zostajesz na inne. Jest to grafik, który Ty wybierasz, a ta pozwala Ci na studiowanie w niepełnym wymiarze godzin – jeżeli masz na to ochotę.
3. Jak oceniacie umiejętności i zdobywaną wiedzę? Czy to zależy od zajęć? Czy testujecie wiedzę egzaminami, prezentacjami, esejami czy projektami praktycznymi.
W programie medycznym, wiedza jest oceniana kilkoma sposobami, wśród nich prace domowe, egzaminy, ale także 
praktyka, oparta na przypadkach pacjentów z życia wziętych, jeżeli chodzi o kodowanie, ubezpieczenie medyczne i kurs dotyczący rachunkowości medycznej (jeżeli celem programu medycznego jest wykwalifikowanie studentów na osoby gotowe do pracy, praktyka jest niezbędna).
Jeżeli chodzi o inne departamenty, wiedza sprawdzana jest głównie przez quizy, egzaminy, prezentacje – w zależności od zajęć. Każdy instruktor na początku semestru przekazuje wymagania i plan, dotyczące danego kursu.
4. Czy jest szansa abym rozpoczęła pracę jako recepcjonistka w gabinecie medycznym, jeszcze w trakcie studiów? Jeżeli tak, to po jakim czasie (w którym semestrze)? Chciałabym rozpocząć pracę jak najszybciej.
Kilku studentów pracuje jako recepcjoniści w gabinecie medycznym wciąż studiując. Jest to świetna praktyka, a studenci tacy zwykle świetnie radzą sobie w naszym programie. Inni studenci zdobywają staże w firmach zajmujących się rachunkowością medyczną lub są wolontariuszami w lokalnych szpitalach, wszystko również w trakcie zajęć. Studenci LIBi mogą od razu zacząć pracę, a po zdobyciu tytułu akademickiego i certyfikacji, będą mogli starać się o wyższe pozycje i oczywiście, wyższą płacę.
5.Kiedy jest odpowiedni moment aby zapisać się do szkoły? W LIBI semestry zaczynają się często, ale kiedy upływają terminy rejestracji?
W LIBI jest sześć sesji rocznie – obecnie otwarta jest rejestracja na okres letni i jesienny. Sesja letnia rozpoczyna się 22 czerwca, a sesja jesienna 29 sierpnia.
6. Słyszałem, że proces zdobycia pracy z instytucji federalnej – pracy np. w sferze Homeland Security – jest procesem długim. Jakie możliwości zatrudnienia pomaga zaoferować LIBI? Czy jest szansa na podjęcie pracy w tej sferze już w trakcie studiów?
Stanowiska pracy w obszarze Homeland Security są często dostępne w okolicach Tri-State. Ze względu na naturę pracy związanej z zapewnieniem bezpieczeństwa, proces sprawdzenia danego kandydata jest szczegółowy i rozległy. Jednak, istnieją możliwości zatrudnienia w sferze nie pełnego etatu w agencjach Homeland Security, takich jak TSA czy U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services – pracę w tych departamentach, studenci moga podjąć po ukończeniu studiów.
Jednym z najbardziej popularnych kursów w LIBI jest kurs 201 Homeland Career Development and Management Course. Ten kurs przygotowuje studentów do składania podań o pracę, a także do podejmowania rozmów kwalifikacyjnych, w sektorze prywatnym jak i rządowym. Wszystko po to aby studenci byli przygotowani na to co nastąpi po ukończeniu szkoły.

For the past ten weeks, we have been introducing LIBI, its programs and why we believe our institution is your path to acquiring the tools you need to cultivate a successful career. And while we try to anticipate all our students’ needs, sometimes a student may have a concern that we can address sooner rather than later to facilitate some of the decisions you may have about getting LIBI education.
Below are some of the FAQs that were submitted by prospective students that we feel may help answer some of your questions.
Question for ESL Dept.
I am OK with everyday English, but I plan on starting college. I work full time as of now. What is the best ESL course (schedule, frequency, type) that I should start? Do you offer something like Professional English, Business English or academic English? How long it may take for me to get to the advanced level of English?
Answer
After the initial meeting with an Admissions Representative, all students are assessed for their English proficiency and placed accordingly. I would refer them to the Course Catalog, which explains placement and requirements for any remedial English classes. The catalog also outlines the college English classes required within each major.
Question for Admissions Dept. Regarding Course Selection and Flexible Schedules
I know there is a possibility of having a flexible schedule. How does choosing courses work? Can I choose each class independently, do I have to take a block of classes? How the process of choosing classes in my major would look like?
Answer
LIBI offers a Morning and Evening schedule. The Morning schedule ends before 2:30pm and the Evening schedule starts at 6pm. Each program has core classes that you need to take, and some courses require prerequisites. This does not mean that if you register for one course you automatically are registered for others. This flexible schedule enables you to be a part time student if you want to.
Question for Assesment and Exams
How do you asses the learning skills? Does it depend on the class? Are these exams, oral presentations, essays, practical projects?
Answer
In the medical program knowledge is assessed by a number of methods including graded homework assignments and exams, of course, but also practicing on numerous patient case studies in the coding classes, completing medical insurance claims in the medical insurance and billing course (if the goal of the medical program is to qualify students to submit claims as medical billers, this is hands on practice doing that)
For other departments, most assessments are based on periodical quizzes, exams and presentations, depending on the course.
Each instructor provides a syllabus that outlines the course and grading criteria.
Question about our Office Technology/Medical Office program
Is it possible I can start working as a medial receptionist even when still studying? After what time (in which semester?) would it be possible? I would like to start working as soon as possible.
Several students work as medical receptionists while they are in school. This is great hands on practice and these students often do very well in our program. Other students obtain internships in medical billing companies or volunteer at local hospitals, also while in school. They can start working right away, and once they obtain the degree and certification they will be qualified to pick up more responsibilities and of course receive a corresponding higher pay grade.
Question about deadlines
When is the right time to apply for school? You said your semesters start frequently, but when are the deadlines?”
We have 6 start periods per year. Registration is currently for the summer and fall. The Summer session starts on 6/22, and the Fall session starts on 8/29.
Question about Homeland Security
Homeland Security – “I heard that the process of getting a job in a federal institution – the job pertaining to the Homeland Security – is a long process. What employment opportunities can you help to accommodate, even during the study period? (pertaining to Homeland Security).”
> U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) jobs are often available in the New York Tri-State area. Due to the nature and security sensitivity of the careers in the security field, background checks are extensive and take a period of time to be complete. However, there are part-time opportunities with some DHS agencies such as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services that LIBI students pursue while they complete their studies. One of the Long Island Business Institute’s most popular courses with our students is LIBI’s HCD 201 Homeland Career Development and Management Course. This course prepares students in the areas of federal and private sector resume writing, interviewing and speaking techniques to build the necessary skills so students are equipped to be successful during the interview process in both government and private sector career pursuits.

Most importantly, it’s important to understand that attending any college is a serious commitment and will alter your life as well as those around you. Sitting down with your loved ones and making them aware of your educational goals will make your transition into college easier; and they may also have questions that you may have overlooked.
